The Couple

How They Met

Daniel & Ryan met on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2010 during an unintentional set-up.

The couple met at a, now defunct, nightclub – Trigger – in San Francisco’s historic Castro neighborhood (aka, the gay-bor-hood) while Ryan was up in the city with a mutual friend for dinner.

After much convincing by the mutual friend, Daniel met up with them because he was told the friend needed “Daniel’s impression about this guy named Ryan.” For whatever reason, this gave Daniel the impression that he was joining a date in progress and so Daniel agreed to come out.

As the night continued, Daniel found himself dodging Ryan’s invitations to dance. Finally, when the friend excused himself to the men’s room, Ryan “went in for the kill” and had the opportunity to talk Daniel alone. During our conversation, Daniel was impressed by Ryan’s composure, but was still under the impression that there was a date in progress.

Alas, at the end of the night, Daniel’s misconceptions were finally cleared up during a texting session while Ryan and the mutual friend drove back to San Jose. When they woke the next morning – 50+ miles apart – they continued their texting conversation well-into the day. That night, Ryan and Daniel continued the conversation at a wonderful dinner at Le Mediterranee in the Fillmore and followed up with coffee at The Grove. It was an incredible 5-hour date on a Sunday night that led to many more wonderful dates, trips and adventures.

About Us

Ryan and Daniel decided to grow their family by adopting their beloved dog Kai in July 2012. Ryan, the fiery Leo, was born in Arizona and raised in Oregon. He is warm, passionate and humorous, but Daniel would say snarky… Daniel, the grounded Capricorn, was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is indeed serious-minded, practical and understanding.

Based off of these descriptions, you would think that they are opposite, but they realized early on, at least by date number three, that they are quite similar. The engagement has allowed them to realize that they are better human beings together and compliment one another.

Ryan is an global marketing program manager for a tech company and Daniel serves as a private public relations consultant to help public agencies modernize and create community engagement programs.
