Proposal planning unexpectedly began back in January 2012.
Ryan and Daniel were in Honolulu celebrating the New Year and decided to visit the local jeweler – Na Hoku. Ryan innocently went in to look at koa wood rings (which he purchased). Daniel insisted that Ryan was tricking him into looking at engagement rings and started hunting through the cases and found “the” rings.
Fast forward an entire year, they had hunted through Na Hoku’s website and multiple stores around the mainland and Hawai’i, but could not find them. They returned to the original store to find out that they had been discontinued and a very limited stock existed scattered across the nation. The couple decided they couldn’t take a chance and purchased the rings that day.
Ryan was then in charge of getting rings on fingers and knew that Daniel’s 30th birthday was the perfect opportunity. Ryan organized a Project Runway themed birthday party starring “Ryan Klum” and “Daniel Garcia”. After a runway show starring a group of friends, Ryan got ready under the cover of “deliberation”. Ryan gathered everyone back together and announced that he had something to say. He started tearing up while reading his prepared proposal, which had Daniel crying shortly there after. Ryan pulled out the ring and Daniel said “yes!”
